Silvel is an antimicrobial barrier dressing coated with nanocrystalline silver. It has an anti-inflammatory effect as well as neovascularization effect. Sustained release of silver at wound site is required for antimicrobial effect & provides favorable environment to wound & to less disruption to the newly formed epithelium. It kills bacteria within the matrix, and also increases susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics & kills bacteria by damaging cell wall, respiratory enzymes etc. It is effective against yeast, fungi, viruses, MRSA & VRSA & maintain adequate antibacterial concentrations with good residual activity, keeping levels elevated over longer period of time.
